Soldier Mountain was established in 1948 in Fairfield, Idaho. After actor Bruce Willis donated the mountain and operations to a local non-profit group, the group’s first priority was to revitalize the mountain’s branding. We gave them a new identity to start the process.
Our assignment was to help promote a ski resort that operates in the shadow of the much more posh and famous Sun Valley. As the mountain was undergoing a revamp—so too did Soldier’s promotional materials—as they were decades out of date.
We turned a perceived weakness (it’s not Sun Valley) into a strength starting with an identity that was crisp and sophisticated, yet not stuffy. Solider Mountain is a public ski resort with low prices and small crowds. It’s also one of only two places in Idaho where Cat skiing is available. We took these strengths and melded them into an identity that said, “This is a place for winter fun, not for celebrity watching.”
